UNC Basketball: Cormac Ryan commits to North Carolina

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have added another ACC transfer, as Notre Dame’s Cormac Ryan will join the Tar Heels.

As first reported by Dick Vitale (and later confirmed by On3’s Joe Tipton), Cormac Ryan will finish out his collegiate career with the UNC basketball program.

Ryan becomes the third transfer to join the Tar Heels this offseason, following Paxson Wojcik and Jae’Lyn Withers. He’ll come to Chapel Hill with one season of college eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-5 guard spent his first collegiate season at Stanford before transferring to Notre Dame. During his career, Ryan has averaged 10.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game over 116 games played. He is a career 40 percent shooter, including 35.2 percent from beyond the arc.

With so many open roster spots to work with, Hubert Davis and his staff went into the offseason looking to improve. One of the major areas of need was in three-point shooting, an area that the Tar Heels struggled mightily during the 2022-2023 season.

Not only does Ryan bring the ability to shoot the basketball, but he also is an experienced veteran who has plenty of ACC experience under his belt. The New York native is also a very good defender, as he has the makings of being an immediate impact player once he officially arrives on campus.

His commitment comes just days after his official visit to campus, one that seems to have gone very well. Ryan becomes the latest puzzle piece of the UNC basketball program’s offseason and is a major addition to this unit heading into next season.
