Add junior forward Alyssa Ustby to the list of UNC women’s basketball players who have surpassed the 1,000 career point mark.

What a memorable 21st birthday for Alyssa Ustby!

Not only is the UNC women’s basketball standout celebrating her birthday playing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but also reached a personal milestone in the process.

Ustby becomes the 40th Tar Heel to reach the 1,000-career points milestone and is the second to do so this season. She follows teammate Deja Kelly, who accomplished the feat on January 5.

Coming into North Carolina’s first NCAA Tournament game against St. John’s, Ustby was 10 points away from the milestone. She finished the first half with 9 points and saw some of her early second-half shots just barely rimmed out.

The moment finally happened around the 5:35 mark, as she put together a signature move near the basket to score her 1,000th (and 1,001) career points.

If it wasn’t for missing five games towards the end of the season, it’s certain that the Rochester, Minnesota native would’ve accomplished the milestone already. However, it couldn’t have happened on a better day, as a milestone birthday was capped off with a personal milestone on the basketball court.

Even though she’s been a scoring presence in the post, Ustby does so many things for this UNC women’s basketball program. This milestone goes to show just how important she is to this team’s success, as she continues to put together an outstanding resume during her time in Chapel Hill.
