On Thursday night, UNC women’s basketball standout Deja Kelly becomes the latest Tar Heel to join the 1,000-point scorers club.

Deja Kelly is officially the newest member of the UNC women’s basketball 1,000-point scorers club.

Coming into the game, Kelly needed 13 points to accomplish the milestone. She was able to record her 1,000th career point in the second half against the Miami Hurricanes and finished the contest with a game-high 19 points.

Kelly is now the 39th Tar Heel to record 1,000 or more points in a career, as it took her just 69 games to do it. If you put those numbers into perspective, it means that the now junior guard has averaged 14.5 per game over her UNC women’s basketball career.

In her college career, Kelly has developed into a true star at North Carolina. She is widely considered among the top players in the entire country and still has plenty of time to add to her already impressive scoring numbers.

Although it’s certain that Kelly and the Tar Heels would have loved to have had this game end with a win, the accomplishment still deserves a ton of recognition. It goes to show you just how elite of a scorer she is, as she reached this milestone with a ton of college basketball in her career left to be played.

Congratulations to Deja Kelly as she becomes the latest member of the UNC women’s basketball 1,000-point scorers club!
