UNC Football: Downs named to CBS Sports Preseason All-America team

UNC football standout Josh Downs is the only Tar Heel to be named to the CBS Sports Preseason All-American teams for the 2022 season.

As the preseason honors continue to roll in, UNC football standout Josh Downs continues to represent the program through the various recognition he has earned.

After being named to The Sporting News All-American team a month ago, Downs has followed it up by making CBS Sports’ All-America Team as well.

The Tar Heels’ standout receiver was named to CBS Sports’ All-America second-team, as he’s once again the lone member of the program to earn the honor. Downs is also just one of seven total ACC players to be featured on this year’s list.

To no surprise, the SEC dominated the two rosters, as 18 of the players of the 54 players come from this conference. With the Big Ten’s 11 overall selections, these two conferences alone make up more than half of the selections for this year’s teams.

Downs is coming off an outstanding 2021 season, as he’s put himself in the conversation to be considered among the best wide receivers in the entire country. With the Tar Heels undergoing a change at the quarterback position, it’s assuring to know that Downs is there to catch the football from whoever ends up winning the competition.

With another monster season in Chapel Hill, Downs could be in line to make some UNC football history. If he continues to produce at a high level, there’s a good possibility that Downs will be catching passes and running routes on Sundays instead of Saturdays next season.
