After watching him play during the first day of the NBPA Top 100 camp, the UNC basketball program wasted no time extending an offer to James Brown.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball staff were on hand for the first day of the NBPA Top 100 camp, which is taking place in Orlando, Florida.

This camp provides coaches from all over the country the opportunity to watch some of the best prospects compete against one another. Of course, the Tar Heels kept a close eye on their current commits, G.G. Jackson and Simeon Wilcher, but they also were looking for players that they wish to add to the program as well.

One player that caught the Tar Heels’ attention was 6-foot-9 center James Brown. North Carolina has expressed prior interest in Brown, but watching him play live on Wednesday showed the coaching staff everything they needed to see.

Late on Wednesday night, Brown posted on social media that the Tar Heels have officially extended an offer to him. He becomes the fifth player in the Class of 2024 to receive a scholarship offer from North Carolina.

Currently, Brown is rated as the No. 27 overall prospect in his class, and is regarded as the No. 1 overall player out of the state of Illinois (according to 247Sports Composite). As he continues to gain more exposure, there’s definitely a chance that he’ll continue to rise up the national rankings.

During his sophomore season in high school, Brown was a dominant force down low. He averaged 13.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting a staggering 67 percent from the floor.

On the Nike EBYL circuit, Brown is averaging 10.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Chicago-based Meanstreets’ 16U team. He also recently participated in the USA Basketball 17U National Team training camp.

Assistant coach Sean May is said to be leading the recruitment of Brown. Given his outstanding career in Chapel Hill and his advanced knowledge of the program, May and the Tar Heels must be confident that Brown could be the next successful big man in the UNC basketball program’s system.
