With the NCAA Tournament beginning next weekend, we break down the schedule and potential matchups for the UNC baseball program.

Coming off their ACC Tournament championship on Sunday, Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program now will turn their focus to the NCAA Tournament.

On Monday, the official seedings were announced, as the Tar Heels earned the No. 10 national seed in this year’s tournament. They will host the Chapel Hill Regional, which will kick off on Friday, June 3 at Boshamer Stadium.

The Tar Heels are joined by Hofstra, Georgia, and VCU in the Chapel Hill Region. Although the rest of the schedule is determined by the upcoming game outcomes, we do know who North Carolina will play in their opening contest.

For the first-ever time in program history, North Carolina will take on Hofstra in the region’s opening game. The Pride come in playing great baseball, as they captured the CAA tournament title as the No. 3 seed. They finished the season with a 30-21 record, including 15-9 in league play.

First pitch for the Tar Heels opening contest is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EST. The second game of the region, featuring Georgia and VCU, will begin at approximately 7:00 p.m. EST.

Here’s a closer look at the full schedule for the Chapel Hill Region:

Friday, June 3
Game 1: #1 North Carolina (38-19) vs. #4 Hofstra (30-21), 2 p.m.
Game 2: #2 Georgia (35-21) vs. #3 VCU (40-18), 7 p.m.

Saturday, June 4

Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, 7 p.m.

Sunday, June 5

Game 6: Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5, 6 p.m.

Monday, June 6
Game 7, if necessary, 6 p.m.

The key to success in this format is obviously taking care of business on the field. This bodes well for the Tar Heels, as they come in as one of the hottest teams in the entire country.

It’s been an outstanding turnaround for the UNC baseball program. Although they are definitely happy with their success so far, they still have business left to take care of.
