The UNC baseball program defeated N.C. State on Sunday afternoon to capture their eighth ACC Tournament championship title.

From an 8-13 start to the season to an ACC Tournament title.

What a turnaround it’s been for the UNC baseball program!

The Tar Heels defeated in-state rival N.C. State on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the UNC baseball program now has eight ACC Tournament titles to its name.

It’s been an incredible run for Scott Forbes’ team, who simply became the hottest team in college baseball over the last few weeks of the season. The Tar Heels put together an impressive stretch to get to this point and finished the job by taking care of the Wolfpack in the finals.

Max Carlson was outstanding again, making his second start in a six-day span. The right-hander allowed just three runs over five innings of work as he picked up his third victory of the season.

The offense provided the pitching staff with all the support they would need. Over the first two innings of play, the Tar Heels put together an offensive outburst, scoring eight of their 9 total runs in the opening two frames.

Once again, it was freshman Vance Honeycutt who provided the offensive spark for North Carolina, as he continues to be a dominating force at the plate. Honeycutt finished the game going two for three with two home runs and five runs batted in, and also made some UNC baseball history in the process. He was also named the ACC Tournament MVP for his efforts throughout the week of play.

After clinching the ACC Tournament title, the UNC baseball program will now look ahead to the upcoming NCAA Tournament. With the way the Tar Heels have been playing, it’s safe to say that teams around the country are hoping to avoid them in their bracket!
