UNC Basketball: Danny Green suffers torn left ACL
It was revealed that former UNC basketball standout Danny Green suffered a torn ACL in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
On Thursday night, former UNC basketball standout Danny Green was unable to return to Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals after he landed awkwardly on his left leg during a collision with teammate Joel Embiid.
Green was forced to watch on the sidelines as his team, the Philadelphia 76ers were eliminated from postseason contention. As gruesome as the injury appeared, the hope was that Green’s injury wasn’t as serious as it looked.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case, as the former Tar Heel has suffered a torn ACL.
This is very disappointing news for the former Tar Heel, as he has a long rehab process ahead of him. As he’s set to turn 35 in June, the hope is that he can recover quickly and avoid having the injury derail his career.
The 12-year NBA veteran has been a steady contributor, especially for the three championship teams he played for. In 819 career games, the former Tar Heel averages 8.7 points per game while shooting just over 42 percent from the floor. He’s known as being an elite three-point shooter, as he’s just under 40 percent from beyond the arc in his career.
After being a starter for most of his career, Green transitioned to more of a reserve role for the 76ers this past season. His scoring numbers took a hit (thanks in part to the team having more scoring options available) but he is still a guy that the franchise relied on for 20+ minutes per contest.
Green won’t miss any postseason action, as the 76ers were eliminated by the Miami Heat. However, he is expected to miss some significant time (if not all of) the 2022-2023 season.
The hope is that he can return to the floor at some point in the near future and continue to be a consistent NBA veteran contributor that could help an organization bring home a championship title.
