Former UNC football standout linebacker Tomon Fox has signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent.

The new regime that is running the New York Giants organization seems to be very fond of the UNC football program.

First, new general manager Joe Schoen and first-year head coach Brian Daboll decided to draft Joshua Ezeudu with their third-round selection.

On Day 3 of the NFL Draft, the Giants took yet another Tar Heel offensive lineman, as Marcus McKethan was their fifth-round selection.

After the draft concluded, the Giants added one more former UNC football standout to the mix, as they signed undrafted free agent Tomon Fox.

Fox had a very productive college football career that spanned over six seasons. As he departs Chapel Hill, Fox’s 30 career sacks rank third all-time in UNC football history.

During the 2022 season, the Lawrenceville, Georgia native recorded 24 tackles and set a single-season career-high 9 sacks. He also tied his personal best 10.5 tackles for loss, and also recorded 9 quarterback takedowns, which was five more than any other Tar Heel had during the season.

Despite being a steady defensive contributor, Fox was not invited to participate in the NFL Draft Combine. It also didn’t help that Fox also tweaked his hamstring as part of North Carolina’s Pro Day, another setback that may have impacted his stock.

Although he never really drew the national attention that he should’ve, Fox could be a very valuable undrafted free agent signing for the Giants. His ability to get to the quarterback is very noteworthy, as that skill alone may be enough to find him a permanent spot on the team’s active roster.
