In a bit of a surprising development, UNC football lineman Joshua Ezeudu becomes the first Tar Heel selected in this year’s NFL Draft.

We finally have UNC football player selected as part of this year’s NFL Draft.

Although many figured that Sam Howell would be the first Tar Heel off the board, one of his protectors was actually drafted ahead of him. With the 67th pick in the third round, the New York Giants selected offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu.

After redshirting as a freshman, Ezeudu was primarily a starter on the offensive line for the UNC football program over the last three seasons. He’s coming off a season in which he was rated as one of the best run blockers in the entire ACC.

The Giants have had issues with their offensive line in recent memory. With a new general manager and head coach in town, the Giants organization has made it a priority to improve the offensive line moving forward.

This draft has been evidence of that, as the organization has already selected two offensive linemen through three rounds. Ezeudu will now team up with No. 7 overall pick Evan Neal in hopes of revamping the team’s offensive protection for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully, Ezeudu is the start of a trend of UNC football players being selected in this year’s NFL Draft.

Best of luck to Joshua Ezeudu as he begins his NFL career with the New York Giants!
