UNC Basketball: Leaky Black to return for fifth season
It’s official: Leaky Black will use his extra year of eligibility to return to the UNC basketball program.
Leaky Black’s time with the UNC basketball program isn’t over just yet.
On social media, Black announced that he will use his extra year of eligibility to return to North Carolina for the 2022-2023 season. The Concord, North Carolina will utilize his extra year of collegiate eligibility, one that was given to student-athletes across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
From the start, it made a lot of sense as to why Black may elect to come back. After the Tar Heels’ outstanding NCAA Tournament run, the program’s loss in the national title game just added more motivation for the team’s standout players to come back for a redemption tour.
Armando Bacot got the ball rolling, as he announced this week that he would return for his senior season. Black has followed the trend, and he becomes the latest Tar Heel to officially announce that they will stick around for another season.
This is major news for the UNC basketball program, as they’ll return one of the best defensive players in the entire country. Black truly came to form during the 2021-2022 season, as he locked down some of the top-scoring threats in the entire country.
Not only did Black stand out defensively, but improved as an offensive player as well. Although he was never the team’s top scoring option, Black showed the ability to knock down key buckets when his team needed them the most.
Black has always been viewed as a “jack of all trades,’ and will use his extra year of eligibility to continue improving all of the skills that he already brings to the table. His announcement also brings some more clarity to the Tar Heels roster for next season, as the team has the possibility of returning four of their five starters.
With the recent decisions from Bacot and Black, it’s certain that this group believes that they have more business to take care of before they leave Chapel Hill.
