All signs appear toward D’Marco Dunn returning to the UNC basketball program for the 2022-2023 season.

Ever since the college basketball season ended for the UNC basketball program, the focus shifted toward the team’s roster for the 2022-2023 season.

With their heartbreaking loss in the national title game, the players (rightfully so) took some time to mull their future plans.

Although the team will lose the likes of Dawson Garcia and Anthony Harris to the transfer portal, they will officially return standouts Armando Bacot and Leaky Black. North Carolina ultimately hopes that more players, such as Caleb Love and R.J. Davis, elect to return as well.

As more decisions come along, it appears that one of the team’s freshmen is hinting at a return to Chapel Hill for his sophomore season.

Based on the above Instagram post, does it appear as if D’Marco Dunn has any intention of leaving North Carolina?

Of course, the Tucson, Arizona native didn’t flat-out say he was coming back, but his post leads you to believe that this is the case. If you’re looking for any assurance of that, just look at the area that is typically for location (right under his username), where Dunn put the caption “Year One.”

During his freshman season, Dunn was essentially a non-factor, as he averaged just four minutes a contest over his 23 games played. His best performance came in a blowout victory over Boston College, as he posted a career-high in points (6) and minutes played (11).

We’re certain that the season didn’t go as planned for the former four-star recruit, but he was never viewed as a “one and done” type of player. Given that he was brought in with the intention of developing his game, getting the opportunity to put in the work every day at the college level should pay dividends in his career moving forward.

Hubert Davis has consistently preached that his players will earn their opportunity, he just doesn’t know when that will come. Although he didn’t get much of a chance during his freshman season, he’ll look to continue improving his skills in order to have that opportunity moving forward.

If Dunn can develop into a steady contributor off the bench, it will greatly benefit the UNC basketball program moving forward. Extra-depth could go a long way in helping this team get back to the national title game next season.
