The UNC Basketball program is 2-0 under Hubert Davis to start the 2021 season and despite some struggles against Brown on Friday night, the program has to feel good with the start so far.

They also have to feel good about recruiting.

Davis was not only able to keep UNC’s two commitments for 2021 but he also landed four commitments for the 2022 class. That’s big in terms of keeping momentum for the program and right now they are off to a good start in 2023 as well.

UNC landed a commitment from Simeon Wilcher before the start of this season and they could be on the verge of another five-star picking them as well. With Robert Dillingham off the board for the Tar Heels, the priority has been put on five-star power forward G.G. Jackson out of South Carolina.

And while there’s a bit to go in his recruitment, the Tar Heels appear to be in good shape. As it stands right now, UNC holds the crystal ball prediction for Jackson landing both predictions, one from Duke insider Adam Rowe and one from national recruiting analyst Eric Bossi.

Now, the crystal ball doesn’t guarantee a commitment but seeing someone like Bossi make a prediction for UNC is a great sign. He also touched on that topic recently:

"Recently elevated to the top 10 nationally and now a five-star prospect, G.G. Jackson recently took what by all accounts was a great visit to North Carolina. Sources throughout the industry have been buzzing since and the word is that Carolina is the team to beat. Skilled, bouncy and still just scratching the surface of how good he can be, Jackson would be a monster pickup. I do feel that he’ll take more visits with Georgetown coming up and others like Duke, South Carolina and Virginia in play. Ultimately, though, I really like the Heels chances and I’ve gone ahead and logged a Crystal Ball pick in their favor."

Jackson has a total of 13 offers in his recruitment as of now and he’s taken a few visits already with more planned. He was at UNC for Late Night With Hubert Davis and will also visit Georgetown in November. The recruit could take some more visits down the line but right now it certainly feels like UNC is the team to beat and will eventually land the commitment when it’s all over.
