You almost couldn’t ask for a better start for Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program in terms of their 2022 recruiting class.

After Roy Williams announced his retirement on April 1st, Davis took over as the next head coach of the prestigious UNC program and right away he’s off to a great start. With recruiting going back to normal in terms of visits and evaluation periods, Davis and his staff wasted no time with this 2022 class.

The Tar Heels hosted several visits in June and have been out on the recruiting trail to evaluate recruits and so far it has landed them three prospects.

Three-star center Will Shaver was the first to commit in early June following a visit to Chapel Hill, he was then joined by four-star guard Seth Trimble in late June. In July, Davis and his staff were able to land a big fish in five-star center Jalen Washington, his first five-star recruit since being on the job. This three-man class is a big one for Davis and as it stands right now on July 12th, it’s the top class in the country.

Yep, that’s right.

Per the 247Sports recruiting rankings, the Tar Heels have the No.1 ranked class for the 2022 cycle after landing that commitment from Washington. UNC has edged out Ohio State (No. 2), UCLA (No. 3), Kansas (No. 4), and Syracuse (No. 5).

It’s still very early in the 2022 cycle but this is encouraging for Davis and his staff. They have built a foundation with this class and they may not be done just yet.

The Tar Heels have several offers out to prospects including a few five-stars that they would love to add to their class. With two big men and a guard committed, ideally UNC would love to add another guard or a wing in the class and potentially cap it at four or five players. Doing so would almost guarantee a top 10 or potentially top 5 finish. in terms of the rankings.

But for now, UNC is just enjoying this hot start and fans can relax a little bit as Davis is proving he can get it done on the recruiting trail.
