Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program are officially on the board in the 2022 recruiting class, landing a commitment from three-star center Will Shaver on Wednesday night. With that commitment, things have opened up a bit for the Tar Heels as they continue to build their class.

Ahead of the busy month of visits in June, the Tar Heels were able to offer a few different players in the month of May including four-star Seth Trimble out of Wisconsin. Trimble is the younger brother of former UNC forward JP Tokoto and his recruitment is starting to pickup with programs getting involved.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard has a total of 13 offers and has already set a few official visits including one to North Carolina. But are the Tar Heels the favorites in this race? One recruiting analyst doesn’t think so.

Rivals writer Rob Cassidy wrote in his latest “Florida man” article about Trimble’s recruitment and made a futurecast prediction for the Wolverines recently. He broke down Trimble and his pick for the Wolverines to land him:

"Trimble intends to trim his list this fall and the Wolverines are a near lock to be there when he does. He also intends to take officials to North Carolina and Marquette in addition to his trip to Ann Arbor, so what takes place on those trips (along with ensuing ones) could shake things up. For now, however, bet on Michigan."

Michigan has certainly become a big player in the recruiting world ever since Juwan Howard took over a few years back. Howard led the team to the Elite Eight this past season and has been able to land some big recruits including some UNC targets in the past. It’s not a surprise to see the Wolverines lead in the race for a Midwest recruit but UNC has their own connection with Trimble as well.

It’s clear that the Tar Heels have some ground to make up in this recruitment and they do get an official visit, which is a chance to impress Trimble before he makes his decision.
