With the UNC Basketball program going through a coaching change earlier this month as Roy Williams passed the torch over to Hubert Davis, the status of recruits became a storyline that was one to watch as the weeks have gone on.

Both D’Marco Dunn and Dontrez Styles revealed that they will still be committed to the program, not jumping ship after the move. The duo will be on campus this Summer for Davis’ first year as head coach in what should be a season in which we will learn a lot about his coaching early on.

But future recruiting classes may hold the key to success for the Tar Heels.

So far, UNC has been able to stay in the race for several of their top targets in future classes since the coaching switch, a good sign for the program. On Tuesday, another recruit in the 2022 class talked about UNC’s involvement and the program for the first time since Davis took over.

Four-star center Dereck Lively II caught up with 247Sports recruiting analyst Steve Helwagen to talk about the latest in his recruitment and where things stand. In the article, Lively II talks about his top schools, including North Carolina, and reveals that Davis reaffirmed his offer to the recruit:

"* On North Carolina — “Coach Hubert (Davis) offered me again after coach Roy Williams retired, so I still have an offer from North Carolina.”"

That’s certainly good news for UNC fans. Lively II is a 7-foot-1 center out of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. that is ranked No. 36 overall, the No. 4 center and No. 1 player in the state according to 247Sports.

With a big need at center following the losses of Garrison Brooks, Walker Kessler, Day’Ron Sharpe and possibly Armando Bacot, the Tar Heels need to look at future classes to find a solution in the paint moving forward. Lively II would fit that need and bring an interesting skillset to Chapel Hill.

Next. Will Armando Bacot return to UNC?. dark
