UNC basketball standout Garrison Brooks has officially found his new home for his final year of college eligibility.

It’s official: Garrison Brooks is heading to Mississippi State. Just a few weeks after announcing that he was entering the transfer portal, the former UNC Basketball standout has a new home.

On Thursday night, Brooks committed to Mississippi State, a team that was involved with him in his original recruitment. On Instagram, the former Tar Heel announced that he would be joining the Bulldogs for his final year of college eligibility. As expected, Brooks did not last long on the transfer portal, as he was only available on the portal for five days.

As expected, Brooks drew interest from a good amount of schools. It’s not every day that programs can add a player of Brooks’ caliber that has such an accomplished resume already under his belt.

The decision shouldn’t be that surprising, as the recent Crystal Ball predictions indicated that the Bulldogs would be the landing spot for Brooks. There are a few connections between Brooks and Mississippi State that make this decision make even more sense.

Prior to landing in Chapel Hill, Brooks was originally committed to Mississippi State, but ultimately de-committed and decided he wanted to play his collegiate career at North Carolina.

Brooks also has some family ties to the program, as his father, George, is a long-time assistant for the Bulldogs. It’s almost certain that George had a major impact on his son’s recruitment back to Mississippi State.

After his outstanding four-year stint in Chapel Hill, Brooks will have the opportunity to play one more college basketball season thanks to the new NCAA eligibility rule. He will get a fresh start at Mississippi State, and we expect him to do big things, just like his did during his time at Chapel Hill.

It will definitely be weird to see Garrison Brooks wearing a different uniform this winter, but we wish him the best not only this season, but with his future endeavors as well.
