UNC Football: Tar Heels make offer to three-star offensive lineman
Mack Brown and the UNC Football program look to add to their offensive line depth for the 2021 recruiting class.
On Monday, the Tar Heels received some discouraging news in regards to their recruiting trail.
Jared Wilson, the three-star offensive lineman from Clemmons, NC, decided to flip his commitment back to the Georgia Bulldogs. With the de-commitment from Wilson, the Tar Heels have a hole to fill in regards to their 2021 recruiting class.
Although the Tar Heels didn’t expect this from Wilson, it didn’t take them long to pursue other recruiting options.
On Tuesday, the Tar Heels extended a scholarship offer to three-star offensive lineman Diego Pounds, according to his personal Twitter account.
According to 247 Sports, the 6-foot-6, 305-pound lineman currently ranks as the No. 36 offensive line prospect in the Class of 2021. The Raleigh, NC native is considered to be the No. 27 overall prospect in the state of North Carolina.
Pounds is a player that the Tar Heels have targeted for some time. The rising senior made his first unofficial visit to Chapel Hill on October 26, 2019, and has made a few trips to the campus since.
Due to the timing, it may seem that the offer to Pounds is a response to Wilson’s de-commitment. However, Mack Brown and crew have been high on this prospect, and it was only a matter of time before they made an official offer to him.
As the recruiting trail continues on, the Tar Heels will continue to pursue some more talent to add to the recruiting class of 2021. It should be expected that they will continue to be heavy players for some of North Carolina’s best prospects throughout the process.
