Former UNC Baseball standout Colin Moran is locked in to start the 2020 Major League Baseball season.

Even with a delayed start to the 2020 regular season, it didn’t take long for Colin Moran to get into an offensive groove.

Entering Monday’s action, Moran has slugged five home runs, which is the most in the National League. The former Tar Heel only trails Aaron Judge for the most homers in all of baseball.

Through nine games, Moran has posted a slash line of .273/.314/.758 over 35 plate appearances. He has three multi-hit games, including a two-home run game on July 27 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Port Chester, NY native has benefitted from the designated hitter rule being implemented in the National League. Moran has served as the Pirates’ designated hitter in four of his nine games played.

This season marks Moran’s fifth year playing at the big league level. Over 318 games played, the 27-year-old has hit 30 home runs and has driven in 150 runs over 1,040 plate appearances. He currently holds a .274 career batting average, which is right near where his current average sits.

There are a handful of former Tar Heels competing in the big leagues this season, but you can definitely make the case that Moran is off to the best start out of anyone in the group. With the way that he is swinging the bat now, it looks as if Moran is poised for a monster 2020 season.
