UNC Basketball: Tre Mann picks Florida over Tar Heels
By Zack Pearson
UNC Basketball recruiting target Tre Mann announced his verbal commitment on Tuesday afternoon and has decided to stay in-state
Class of 2019 point guard Tre Mann has made his decision.
Just a few weeks after Mann announced he was taking official visits to North Carolina and Kansas, after he re-opened his recruitment, he decided that it was time to verbally commit and stay home.
Mann announced via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that he has verbally committed to the University of Florida, ending his commitment. The point guard posted this image on Twitter as he’s staying in-state with the Gators.
After narrowing down his list to Florida, Tennessee and Kansas earlier in 2018, Mann re-opened his recruitment and included the Tar Heels. From there, head coach Roy Williams offered the five-star point guard and he even scheduled a visit to UNC.
Mann previously visited both Tennessee and Florida before setting up the other two and it looked like he would wait until he took all of the visits before making a decision. There was even a report just a few days ago from Rivals that UNC has picked up some momentum in Mann’s recruitment and could be the landing spot for the point guard.
But all of that went away on Tuesday afternoon as Mann is now off the board.
With five-star center Armando Bacot and four-star point guard Jeremiah Francis both verbally committed, Williams would still like to add at least one more guard in the 2019 class.
The only other guard that currently has an offer from UNC is Cole Anthony and he just listed the Tar Heels in his Top 12 on Monday. Anthony’s recruitment has been pretty silent to date but things should start picking up soon when he cuts his list and schedules official visits.
Losing out on Mann hurts but it won’t stop Williams from going out and trying to land another talented wing for his 2019 class that is ranked in the Top 10.
