Rivals’ Eric Bossi thinks UNC target E.J. Montgomery ends up here…

Class of 2018 prospect E.J. Montgomery is one of the most sought after high school basketball players in the country.

Montgomery decommitted from Auburn and reopened his recruitment in September when the school was named in a FBI investigation that alleged mass corruption, bribery and wire fraud involving illegal dealings with shoe companies. His decision came just one day after the arrest of Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person, one of four assistant coaches taken into custody as part of the federal probe.

More from North Carolina Tar Heels

Montgomery made his initial commitment fairly early in the recruiting process, but he’s been much more patient and selective the second time around. Despite being in contact with a number of big name programs over the last six months, the five-star power forward has kept his options open.

Rivals‘ National Basketball Analyst Eric Bossi has followed Montgomery closely over the last several months, and has his opinion on where the talented big man will end up.

In a recent recruiting update, Bossi mentions Montgomery’s unofficial visits to North Carolina and Duke, and highlighted a couple of other schools – Vanderbilt and Georgetown – that have also been getting a lot of buzz lately.

It’s Bossi’s belief, though, that Duke holds the edge in Montgomery’s recruitment, and that Durham is his most likely landing spot next fall.

Since visiting the Tar Heels and Blue Devils last week, though, Montgomery has announced that he will be returning to Chapel Hill for an official visit before making his final decision. That’s good news for a North Carolina team that may not be leading in Montgomery’s recruitment, but certainly appears to be one of the front-runners.

He’s still considering 11 schools in all, but plans to cut his list to five or six in the near future. And judging by what Bossi has said, it stands to reason that Duke, North Carolina, Georgetown and Vanderbilt will likely make their way onto his final list.
