UNC Women’s Soccer player Avery Patterson played a huge role last week for the Tar Heels and earned ACC Player of the Week honors.

Senior Avery Patterson, a senior on the UNC Women’s Soccer team, had an impressive week when the then, No. 3 ranked Tar Heels traveled to No. 10 South Carolina and No. 12 Alabama. For her great performance, which powered North Carolina to a 1-0-1 record against the two SEC schools, Patterson earned ACC weekly honors.

Patterson was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week following a two-goal performance last week, having one goal in each of the Tar Heels’ contests. Patterson is one of the co-captains and has led the Tar Heels to a 5-0-3 start in the regular season against the toughest schedule in the nation.

Patterson has now scored in three consecutive games and has a team-leading four total goals for the 2023 season. She becomes the third Tar Heel to win ACC weekly Player of the Week honors, and the first on the offensive side of the ball. Savy King (twice) and Sam Meza (once) have both won ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors during the 2023 season.

Following its 1-0-1 week against the No. 10 Gamecocks and No. 12 Crimson Tide, the No. 3 ranked UNC Women’s Soccer program moved back up in the rankings to their original preseason ranking as the No. 2 team in the country.

The Tar Heels open ACC play on Friday, September 15th, when they host Virginia Tech at Dorrance Field for a 3:30 PM game time that can be watched on ACC Network Extra.
