UNC takes down Virginia Tech to claim ACC Coastal Division title over the weekend

The weekend for University of North Carolina athletics wasn’t a complete loss.

Despite losing big to Virginia Tech in football, the Tar Heels got their revenge on the soccer field.

The men’s soccer team clinched the ACC Coastal Division by beating the Hokies on Sunday afternoon, giving them their third-straight division title.

After a scoreless first half, UNC turned it up a notch in the second half. The Tar Heels got all four of their goals in the second half and ended up routing the Hokies 4-0.

By getting all three points in the match, UNC clinched the division over both Notre Dame and Virginia with just one match left. The Tar Heels will take on Notre Dame Friday night to close out the regular season.

In the 56th minute, UNC added to its lead when Raul Aguilera scored just minutes after being inserted into the game. It was Augilera’s first career goal with the Tar Heeks.

The icing on the cake came just seconds apart for UNC.

After Mauricio Pineda scored in the 63rd minute, it took Cam Lindley just 18 seconds to add the Tar Heels fourth goal of the match. Lindley continues to add to his impressive season which now has him at 7 goals to go along with 10 assists.

The Tar Heels are the No. 1 team in the nation at 13-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in ACC play as they head to the postseason.

They will not only be the favorite in the ACC Men’s Soccer Tournament beginning Nov. 1, but also in the NCAA Tournament beginning shortly after that.
