Roy Williams visits elite power forward from class of 2019

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and two of his assistants, Steve Robinson and Hubert Davis, took a trip to Richmond, Virginia yesterday to visit Trinity Episcopal School.

They were there to watch Armando Bacot, one of the top big men in the class of 2019.

Williams and company watched practice, which included a 5-on-5 game that pit the team’s coaches against its players – the coaches won 11-9 – and then chatted with Bacot for about five minutes before catching a flight back to Chapel Hill.

That conversation, as well as the exchange between some of college basketball’s most respected coaches and the Richmond-based high school team was very positive.

Late Wednesday evening, Bacot eliminated all but 10 of the schools recruiting him, announcing the finalists on his Twitter page.

The list includes some of the biggest names in college basketball including Duke, Kansas, Georgetown, Oklahoma State, UCLA, VCU, Villanova, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Bacot is a 6-foot-10, 225-pound power forward who is currently ranked No. 16 in the 247Sports Composite. He’s considered a top-5 player at his position and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Virginia.

He had a breakout sophomore season in which he averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per game for Trinity en route to the VISAA Division I state title. He was subsequently named to the 2017 All-Metro boys basketball team.

We’d expect to see a fair amount of contact between the two parties moving forward. Williams is trying to capture as many elite big men in the 2019 class as possible, and Bacot certainly fits the bill.
