Desperado

I know Desperado is an Eagles song, but Kenny Rogers did a cover version back in 1977 so it is there for the taking. Besides is there a more fitting song for the Cavaliers?

The lyrics go: “Desperado, why don’t you come to your senses, you’ve been out ridin’ fences for so long now…” That’s Virginia football. Whether it was Al Groh or Mike London or even Bronco Mendenhall, the outcome is usually the same.

They may convince people things are going to be better with a random winning season or a winning streak here or there but in the end, they are still just the same, an over matched Power Five school.

Take the Indiana game for instance.

Coming off an 18-point beat down of William and Mary, several people thought this game might be winnable at home for the Cavaliers. The Cavs returned a starting quarterback and had potential.

Four quarters later, Virginia had lost another one. Kurt Benkert threw the ball 66 times for only 259 yards, while the rushing game couldn’t go anywhere. All the good vibes gained from the William and Mary game were gone after this one.

Yet they keep going out there hoping for something different. They will look for that difference as they welcome in UConn this week. The Huskies had an extra week to prepare for this game after USF canceled their match-up.

However, the real question is will things turn out different this time around?
