The Gambler

If you know anything about country music, or just enjoy Geico commercials, you would know this is one of Roger’s best songs and was definitely getting a cameo in these rankings.

In this light, the “Gambler” refers to Coach Larry Fedora. This season Fedora has already gone for it five times on fourth down. His team has only converted two of those attempts.

Last year he only went for it on fourth down 15 times total. So in two games, he is already a third of the way there.

I know a lot of this has to do with the score and down and distance but it shows our defense needs work and overall he doesn’t trust the kicking game.

Speaking of the defense, the pass defense has been torched. So far this season UNC has given up 756 passing yards, through two games. In 13 games last season the Tar Heels only gave up 2196 passing yards.

In other words UNC has allowed a third of their entire last season total after just two games. That is not good.

The Tar Heels are going to need to be a lot better against Old Dominion on the road this week. The Monarchs are coming off a win against UMass and are looking to start 3-0 this season.

Coach Fedora may have to take a few more gambles if he wants to avoid his team starting 0-3 for the first time since 2003 when John Bunting was still around.
