Class of 2018 four-star prospect talks recruitment, front-runners and Tar Heels

Four-star small forward Jairus Hamilton is one of North Carolina’s top remaining targets in the class of 2018.

Hamilton, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound native of Concord, North Carolina is a long, strong, athletic wing with the ability to play multiple positions on both sides of the floor. His combination of size and strength will allow him to create mismatches as well as guarding multiple positions.

He averaged better than 23 points and seven rebounds per game as a junior, subsequently receiving scholarship offers from a number of prolific basketball programs including Arizona, Duke, Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia.

He recently sat down with Rivals and discussed the current state of his recruitment, and the teams that have made the biggest impact with him thus far.

"“I am still open. I see the schools that are recruiting me the hardest but nothing is kind of closed right now,” Hamilton told Rivals. “Definitely, Duke, NC State, Kansas, UNC, Missouri, Arizona, Wake Forest and I think Kentucky is coming in, as well.”"

Until recently, Hamilton was considered a strong North Carolina lean by many in the recruiting sector. Lately, rival North Carolina State has been creating a lot of buzz around Hamilton’s recruitment, causing many to second-guess where the talented big man ends up next season.

Still, the Tar Heels are considered one of the front-runners to sign Hamilton, given his frequent trips to Chapel Hill and the relationship he has with current and future players.

"“I definitely like them a lot,” Hamilton said. “I got Coby (White) and Rechon (Black) already committed there so I know people that are there, plus, I have been there a lot and know the coaches. It definitely has a lot of good connections, which is what I like about them.”"
