After UNC fell behind by five with just over five minutes left, they went on a 12-0 run to grab control of the game. But Kentucky freshman Malik Monk drilled a big three-pointer to tie the game with just over 7 seconds left.
Then it happened.
Junior Theo Pinson received the inbounds pass and took it the length of the court, kicking it out to sophomore Luke Maye who buried a jump shot with just .3 seconds left on the clock.
The buzzer then expired and the party began.
The Tar Heels celebrated on the court by accepting the trophy as champions of the South Bracket and then cut down the nets.
Following that, the party really got going in the locker room as the Tar heels celebrated their Final Four birth in style.
Watch the celebration below:
It’s hard not to get too damn excited for these kids. Especially after they had their hearts ripped out last April, losing the national championship game to Villanova on a buzzer beater.
The Tar Heels motto all season long has been “unfinished business” and they took another step in the right direction of finishing that business and cutting down the nets.
