The North Carolina Tar Heels open up their 2017 NCAA Tournament run against Texas Southern in the first round. Let’s look back at some memorable first and second round games in UNC history

UNC basketball has a great history, including great coaches and great players.

The combination of both has allowed the Tar Heels to build a powerhouse college basketball program.

Many former players have played professional basketball in the NBA and overseas.

There are many benefits to having one of the best basketball programs in the nation. One of those benefits is making the post-season tournament and the chance at a national championship.

The UNC Tar Heels have had a lot of classic games in the tournament over the years.

Some of their best games occurred the NCAA Tournament, in particular during the first and second rounds.

In this year’s NCAA Tournament, the Tar Heels will possibly have a few more games to add to this list.

As the No. 1 seed in the South Region, UNC will be a target for every team in their bracket. Every opponent will attempt to dethrone the Tar Heels and represent the South region in the Final Four.

In this article, we discuss five games that took place in the first and second rounds of previous NCAA tournaments. These games had some of the best basketball ever played by the Tar Heels.
