UNC reacts to being a number one seed in the South Region as its announced on the CBS Sports Selection Sunday show

Well, the drama is all over.

The North Carolina Tar Heels earned a No. 1 seed in the South Region and will play Texas Southern on Friday in Greenville, South Carolina.

More from UNC Basketball

Going into Selection Sunday, there was some talk that UNC may lose their number one seed after bowing out in the ACC Tournament semifinals to Duke on Friday night.

While some analysts (looking at you Seth Davis) tried to flex their muscles and campaign for Duke to be on the one line, it didn’t happen.

The Tar Heels got it instead.

That’s all done now and it’s time to focus on the prize ahead and the ability to win six-straight games to be crowned champion.

Per tradition, the Tar Heels gathered at head coach Roy Williams home for a viewing party on Selection Sunday as they learned their fate.

The team hung out together, watched the show, chatted, cheered when Duke was announced as a two seed and more. It was truly another great bonding event.

Watch the instant the Tar Heels found out they were headed to the South Region and as the top seed:

Love it.

Despite losing in the ACC Tournament, the focus has been on the NCAA Tournament and returning to the Final Four all season long.

The Tar Heels have some unfinished business to take care of, losing the national championship game on a buzzer beater to Villanova. It’s something the team has used as motivation ever since that dreadful night in April of 2016.

Returning to the Final Four won’t be easy though.

While the top half might be considered a favorable one for the Tar Heels, UNC’s bracket also features Kentucky and UCLA, two really good teams who are the two and three seeds in the region.

UNC has already lost on a neutral court to the Wildcats this season and UCLA can score the basketball as good as anyone in the country.
