Starting Rotation

Much like last year, the starters will be headlined by J.B. Bukauskas.

Bukauskas was stellar last year for the Heels, and followed it up with a good showing in the summer with the USA collegiate national team. In his time with the national team, he gave up zero earned runs in 21.2 innings of work.

The leader in ERA for the Heels will not be back in the rotation this season. Zac Gallen, who posted a 2.68 ERA last season was drafted in the third round by the Saint Louis Cardinals. The Heels will look to get more out of the bullpen to fill the gap that Gallen will leave.

As for other starters, the Heels will likely roll out big righty Jason Morgan, and Rodney Hutchison. Last season, Morgan was 3-3 with a 4.10 ERA, and Hutchison was 1-2 with a 5.82 ERA.

Cole Aker is another guy for the Heels who could provide quality starts in a pinch. Aker is a sophomore, who was 3-1 last year as a freshman, who will be looked upon to be a leader for the Heels.

The top of the pitching staff will be key for the Heels. The top of the staff had solid ERA’s last season, and will be looking to string together some more wins this season.
