Last Year in Review

Last year, the ACC schedule proved to be too much for the Heels. In non-conference play, the Heels were an incredible 21-4.

Despite that incredible record, they could not muster up enough conference wins. They finished 13-17 in conference, leaving them on the wrong side of the bubble.

The beginning of the season looked very promising last year. They got off to a 12-1 start, and recorded wins over UCLA, and Oklahoma State. The Diamond Heels looked very much like College World Series contenders.

That belief was shot down in conference play.

While the 2016 season was ultimately a letdown, there were several bright spots. Sophomore JB Bukauskas shredded his opponents on his way to a 7-2 record. Bukauskas also posted a 3.10 ERA throughout the season.

As far as the offense goes, the Heels found their best offense came from their big three. Brian Miller, Logan Warmoth, and Tyler Ramirez were the catalysts that carried the Heels last season. All three of them hit above .300 making them the only players on the team to do that.

On the bright side, the Heels return two of the three guys, with Tyler Ramirez being the only departure, as he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.
