James Worthy

Draft: 1982 Round 1, pick 1 – Los Angeles Lakers
Career: 1982-1994
3x NBA Champion
1988 NBA Finals MVP
7x NBA All-Star

Picked first overall in the 1982 NBA Draft to the Los Angeles Lakers, James Worthy had a lot of expectations as a professional basketball player.

He lived up to the hype.

Worthy came into the league fresh off a NCAA title with the University of North Carolina and immediately joined a Lakers team built to win championships. With the help of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he did just that.

Worthy would win three NBA championships with the Lakers in the 80’s and pick up the moniker “Big Game James” thanks to his ability to shine in crucial moments.

Worthy retired as a seven-time NBA All-Star and was later named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.
