The 2009 North Carolina Tar Heels were a flat-out dominant team. UNC lost 4 games in the lead up to the tournament, including a tough one to Florida State in the ACC Tournament, but when the Big Dance rolled around, Carolina was borderline unstoppable. Carolina won the six games in the tournament by an average of 20.83 points, including a 89-72 win over Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament Championship.

This team and this tournament run ranks first among all of Roy’s runs because of the sheer dominance of this team. Tyler Hansbrough was unstoppable, Ty Lawson was unphased at the point and role players like Danny Green, Ed Davis and Deon Thompson all understood their role and excelled at it.

The 2009 Tournament run was the best among Roy’s 10 runs in his career at UNC.
