In recent years, the power forward position has been a slight weakness for the North Carolina basketball team as James Michael McAdoo could never quite reach his potential. That being said, historically, the North Carolina basketball team has had a lot of great power forwards. The Heels have even had three of these forwards drafted in the first round of the NBA draft in the last four years. That’s especially impressive considering that this has been a “down” period for Tar Heel power forwards.

Before I rank the top five power forwards in North Carolina history, let me lay out a few ground rules.
- The players I picked could not have already appeared in a Keeping it Heel ranking. If any player was listed in The Best Small Forwards in North Carolina History, they were ineligible for this list.
- Only the careers at UNC matter for this article. The success that a player had or did not have in the NBA isn’t important for this list.
DISCLAIMER: A lot of these players played multiple positions at Carolina , splitting time between small forward and power forward or power forward and center.
