Carolina has had a lot of terrific point guards. All of them have had talent, discipline, and leadership.  And by no surprise, all of them have led their teams to success.

Who is to say that Marcus Paige won’t make it up there? In his sophomore season, he led an offensively-challenged Tar Hell squad to wins against good teams like Louisville and Kentucky.  He earned first-team All-ACC honors and was selected as the Most Improved Player in the ACC by votes of both the media and the league’s head coaches.  He led the ACC in scoring at 17.5 points per game, free throw percentage at 88%, and was third in three-pointers made per game.

And just like every all-time great, he had a defining moment. Down big in the second half, Marcus Paige was incredible as he heated up from the outside on February 26th in the PNC Arena.  He ended with 35 points as the Heels beat NC State in overtime.

While teams will try to shut him down, and with the fact that he will probably have more help offensively than during the 2013-2014 season, if Paige competes for player of the year and maybe even wins a national championship, it would be hard to keep a talented leader like Marcus Paige out of the top-5 North Carolina point guard discussion.
