Last year's team could've really benefitted from Zayden High's size and athleticism.

Unfortunately, an off-the-court matter kept the San Antonio, Texas native off the team, one that seems to have been resolved given he's back on the roster for the 2025-2026 season.

Sure, it's easy to speculate about what actually went down. There's been plenty of rumors and speculation, but at this point, it's important to not get too caught up in the situation.

High served his punishment and is now ready to come back and make the most of his second chance with the program.

During his time at North Carolina

As a freshman during the 2023-2024 season, High played a limited role off the bench. He appeared in 23 games off the bench, playing a total of 102 minutes (most of which came when the Tar Heels found themselves in foul trouble or needed a fresh body to compete in the paint).

What we saw from High was a player who plays the game with a lot of energy, someone who gives 110% on each and every play. He did struggle with foul trouble, as he recorded 23 personal fouls over his scattered playing time.

He proved that he wasn't afraid to compete, but definitely had room to grow and develop as a player (which is often the case for young frontcourt players).

What to Expect in 2025-2026

High will likely be competing with James Brown for playing time as the UNC basketball program's backup center behind projected started Henri Veesaar. He also should be a factor at the four position, especially if he can show the ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc.

Bold Prediction

High is going to play a big role off the bench, providing stability in the front court at multiple positions. His energy and toughness will earn him playing time, as don't be surprised to see him add more to the table offensively with a little experience under his belt.
