Remember when Ven-Allen Lubin told us all that his decision to enter the transfer portal was simply as a precaution for the pending NCAA settlement that was being discussed?

Well, we all kept receipts.

Lubin lied to us all, as he has now announced that he will be transferring to... NC State.

Once Lubin entered his name into the portal, it felt like a return wasn't likely. North Carolina seemed to be annoyed by this change of heart from the 6-foot-8 forward, particularly given that he agreed to financial terms to return for what would be his senior season in 2025-2026.

I guess Lubin got annoyed at some of the financial awards that some of his potential new teammates werre earning and wanted more. Unfortunately for him, Jim Tanner and the UNC basketball program had no care to play the negotiating game.

Lubin had a solid season at North Carolina, as he became the team's starting center on a very small squad. Down the stretch, Lubin arguably the Tar Heels' best player, finishing the year with 11 consecutive double-digit scoring performances. Of those 11 games, Lubin recorded four double-doubles, becoming a much-needed preesence in the post area.

However, the goal of the offseason was for North Carolina to get bigger, something that greatly accomplished. Who knows: maybe Lubin was threatened by the thought of competition, or possibly just wanted to end up at four different schools during his four collegiate seasons.

Lubin's just lucky that NC State just so happens to not come to Chapel Hill this season for the first time in over 100 years. The now former Tar Heel definitely would hear it from the UNC basketball faithful that he essentially slapped in the face with this move.

Benedict Arnold is the biggest traitor in American History, but Ven-Allen Lubin might just be the biggest traitor in UNC basketball lore.
