The UNC women's lacrosse team knows a thing or two about winning, especially coming off their national championship season during the 2024-2025 academic year.
During the offseason, four Tar Heels earned the opportunity to play internationally, earning spots on Team USA's squad for The World Games in Chengdu, China. The success for these Tar Heels carried into international play, as the four UNC women's lacrosse standouts helped Team USA earn a gold medal in this year's event.

On Monday (which was late Sunday night into early Monday morning in the United States), Team USA secured a 16-8 victory over Canada in the championship contest. The victory avenges Team USA's loss to Canada in the 2022 edition of the event, a game where the red, white, and blue suffered a 14-12 loss.
Co-Captain Marie McCool gave Team USA an early lead, one that built momentum for the rest of the game. While the 16 goals scored were the lowest that the United States scored in a single-game during the event (crazy to think, right?!), it was more than enough to help them secure the gold medal.
Along with McCool's leadership and stellar play, Taylor Moreno was albe to close out the game with nine second half saves, including an incredible stop on a 1-on-1 breakaway. She finished the tournament with 29 saves for a 54.7 save percentage.
Chloe Humphrey, the star of this year's national championship squad, finished the tournament with 21 points, the fifth-most on the team. She contributed 13 goals to go along with eight assists.
Overall, Team USA put together a perfect 5-0 record at the tournament, outscoring its opponents by a staggering 129-50. This marked the second gold medal for the United States in three appearances at The World Games.
You know what they say: winning is contagious. The four UNC women's lacrosse stars added to their trophy rooms by helping Team USA secure a gold medal in The World Games, another impressive feat to add to an incredible run over the last calendar year.
Of course, the international experience is also very beneficial for student-athletes. However, we're glad to see these four Tar Heels heading back to Chapel Hill to begin their quest for another national championship this upcoming season.
