UNC Women's Basketball picks up seventh win in a row, defeats UNC Greensboro
The UNC women's basketball program picked up its seventh victory in a row as they defeated UNC Greensboro on Wednesday night in Chapel Hill to improve to 10-1 on the season.
Over the early stretch of the 2024-2025 season, especially during the team's seven-game winning streak, some of the same characteristics continue to show with this group: Stellar defense, timely offensive contributions from essentially everyone who touches the floor and a feeling that this group could do something very special this season.
The Tar Heels shot 51% from the floor in the first half, and while they did cool off a bit in the second half, the defensive intensity remained true throughout. North Carolina forced 13 turnovers, seven of which were caused by the duo of Alyssa Ustby and Lexi Donarski, as they once again made life difficult for the opposing offense.
Speaking of Ustby, the fifth-year graduate student did Alyssa Ustby-type things once again. In 24 minutes of action, Ustby scored a game-high 15 points, recording eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks in another stat-filled performance. Indya Nivar was the only other Tar Heel in double-figures, as 12 of the 13 players who entered the game scored at least once.
The UNC women's basketball program will have a few days off before they host top-25 ranked Georgia Tech to begin ACC play on Sunday afternoon.
