The UNC women's basketball program controlled the game from the opening tip en-route to a blowout victory over UNC Wilmington on Thursday night in Chapel Hill.
North Carolina started the game on a 14-2 run, one that essentially put the game out of reach. The Tar Heels outscored the Seahawks 20-7 in the first quarter and 20-9 in the second, giving them a comfortable lead heading into the half.
Similar to what we saw in the team's season opener on Monday, Courtney Banghart went very deep into her bench. Without Indya Nivar, Kayla McPherson and Sydney Barker, 11 Tar Heels saw game action while 10 of those players scored at least one basket.
Lexi Donarski led the way with 21 points, knocking down five three-pointers in the process. Reniya Kelly was the only other Tar Heel in double-figures, finishing the night with 14 points of her own.
In her second game as a Tar Heel, Ciera Toomey looked very comfortable, scoring 9 points while recording eight rebounds in her 17 minutes of action. Trayanna Crip scored eight points in 15 to help contribute in a big way toward the victory.
Even on a night where star Alyssa Ustby struggled offensively, the UNC women's basketball program showed that they have plenty of depth to work with. The Tar Heels earned contributions from essentially all 11 players who touched the floor, as the depth of this team is an intriguing factor to watch as the season rolls along.
The UNC women's basketball program hits the road for the first time this season as they take on North Carolina A&T on Tuesday night in Greensboro. Three days later, the Tar Heels will once again play in Greensboro, this time facing off against the UConn Huskies.
