A few years ago, North Carolina was heavily involved in recruiting five-star forward Nyla Harris. The Tar Heels were finalists in the recruiting battle, but Harris ultimately decided to take her talents to Louisville.
Fast forward to today, and the pairing North Carolina hoped for is set to happen (better late than never!).

According to Talia Goodman of On3, the UNC women's basketball program secured a commitment from Harris. She'll come to Chapel Hill with plenty of experience to add to the Tar Heels frontcourt.
Harris has appeared in 105 career games, starting in 81 games. She's coming off a season in which she averaged 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per-game, helping guide the Cardinals to a 22-11 season.
With both Maria Gakdeng and Alyssa Ustby exhausting their collegiate eligibility, it was also presumed that the UNC women's basketball program would look at potential options via the transfer portal. While the roster currently features some young, promising talent, it certainly doesn't hurt to add a veteran presence who is an effective scorer in the post and can help the team's rebounding effort.
It just so happened that the Tar Heels had a lot of familiarity with Harris, given they recruited her heavily out of high school and competed against her during her three seasons at Louisville.
This has the makings of being a great addition for Courtney Banghart's squad, as Harris is a player who could immediately slide into the Tar Heels starting lineup for the 2025-2026 season. She'll also be able to mentor some of the team's young talents as well, as the frontcourt will look a bit different but still possesses a lot of talented players in the mix.
