If Monday night's contest in Chestnut Hill was tied for five seconds, that was a lot.

From the opening tip, the UNC women's basketball took full control, securing its first ACC victory of the season in a dominant effort over Boston College. The win caps off the 2025 calendar year for the Tar Heels, who now enter 2026 with a 12-3 overall record.

Right out of the gate

The opening tip went up, one that was one by the Tar Heels. Ciera Toomey guided the tip to Nyla Harris, who quickly found a cutting Lanie Grant for an easy score in transition to get the action going right away.

It was an early sign of great things to come for North Carolina.

A game of runs

North Carolina gave itself a 28-point cushion before halftime, courtesy of a 16-0 run to end the first half of play. In the second quarter, the Tar Heels outscored the Eagles 26-5, as Boston College failed to score for over five minutes before the teams went to the locker room.

The second half wasn't much different, as the Tar Heels built upon their run to extend it to a 26-0 rout.

Spread the love

In typical fashion, the UNC women's basketball program was led by a variety of scorers. Nyla Harris had her best game thus far as a Tar Heel, scoring a season-high 19 points while bringing in 9 rebounds. Nyla Brooks was once again stellar off the bench, contributing 15 points of her own, while Ciera Toomey flirted with a double-double, ending the night with 11 points and eight rebounds.

A trio of Tar Heels (Reniya Kelly, Elina Aarnisalo and Laila Hull) each had 9 points a piece to help pace the scoring attack. As a team, North Carolina shot 58% from the floor and held Boston College to a 21% clip.

That was easy

The UNC women's basketball program handled business the way they expected to, returning to Chapel Hill with a dominant conference victory. They won't have long to celebrate this one, as they await a visit from California on New Year's Day to continue ACC action.
