The 2026 college baseball regular season is heading toward the finish line, and once again, Scott Forbes and the Diamond Heels are rolling.

Following Saturday afternoon's victory over Pittsburgh, the Tar Heels claimed another ACC series victory, their eighth consecutive in conference play.

Thanks to their dominance throughout ACC play thus far, UNC has set themselves up nicely for the upcoming ACC Tournament.

UNC claims a double-bye in the 2026 ACC Tournament

With four conference games left to play, the Diamond Heels have already claimed a top four seed in the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship, giving them a double-bye to the quarterfinal round.

The defending tournament champions know the importance of securing a double-bye. Starting on Tuesday, May 19, the tournament is played on consecutive days until a champion is crowned on Sunday. Basically, the more you play, the harder it is to manuever with your pitching, especially if you don't have the depth that other teams have.

Pitching depth isn't an issue for Scott Forbes and the Tar Heels, but it does surely help only needing to win three games instead of having to win four or even five games over consecutive days.

In front of the home crowd, Jason DeCaro reaches an impressive career milestone

Last year, the Tar Heels claimed the No. 3 seed and secured the tournament title, ultimately defeating Clemson 14-4 in the championship game. This year, it seems likely that the Diamond Heels will be the No. 2 seed (unless something drastic happens), putting them on the same side of the bracket as last year.

If the standings hold up, Georgia Tech (which UNC took two of three from during the regular season) would be the top seed. However, the Yellow Jackets will travel to Massachusetts to face Boston College (the current No. 4 seed if the season ended today), as that series could influence seedings before the regular season concludes.

In all honesty, the Tar Heels are probably not worried about their seeding, as they know the job at hand is to beat the team they are matched up with on that given day. They will be focused on closing out the regular season strong before heading to Charlotte for the big conference event.
