When Hubert Davis was fired as the head coach of the UNC basketball program, Tar Heel fans instantly became worried that the two five-star commits would ultimately head elsewhere.

Fans are going to be absolutely thrilled to hear that one of those five-star talents is sticking by his initial commitment to the program.

Maximo Adams is sticking with the Tar Heels!

News broke on Saturday morning that Adams has doubled-down on his commitment to North Carolina, officially ending any speculation that he may explore other options. This is major news for Michael Malone and the Tar Heels, especially given the program's push to build a roster for the 2026-2027 season.

When Malone took the job, two of his top priorities were to retain both Adams and Dylan Mingo, two of the best prospects in the country who previously committed to Hubert Davis. While Adams felt like the more secure commitment of the two, it hasn't stopped Malone from putting the full-court press on to retain both, as Adams must've liked what Malone had to say regarding his future with the program.

In fact: Dylan Mingo took an official visit to campus on Friday, another sign of how important the blue-chip prospects are for the program to retain.

Fans won't be surprised, but will be very excited, about Adams' decision, as his quote following his commitment is one that still stands true for the future Tar Heel:

“The culture, tradition, and honor of a program is important to me,” Adams told Branham following his announcement. “Also, the fans are second to none; they're engaging and create a fun environment day in and day out for the team.”

As you try and map out UNC's roster for the 2026-2027 season, you now can officially plug Maximo Adams into the equation. Needless to say: this is a HUGE move for the Tar Heels, given that one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2026 class is keeping his original pledge to North Carolina.
