Although the UNC baseball program fell to Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament finals, it was a successful week in Charlotte for the Diamond Heels.
With the NCAA Tournament approaching, it was a very positive sign to see the Diamond Heels continuing to put runs on the board. Their 13-run, 22-hit outburst in the semifinals (which included a season-high six homers) was certainly a highlight of the three games that the Tar Heels played in.
Following the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday afternoon, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its annual all-tournament team, one that features a trio of Tar Heels.

North Carolina is represented by the trio of Jake Schaffner, Owen Hull, and Rom Kellis on this year's ACC Baseball All-Tournament Team.
Schaffner was red-hot at the top of the order for the Diamond Heels, collecting six hits over his 12 at-bats. He had a two-hit, four-RBI performance against Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals and followed it up with a four-hit outing against Pittsburgh in the semi-finals. He recorded four extra-base hits (two doubles and two triples) and also walked three times throughout the weekend.
Hull recorded multi-hit games in each of the three games his team played in Charlotte. He started the tournament with two hits, three RBIs and a run scored against the Hokies, and preceeded to add another two hits and a pair of RBIs to his tournament stat line in the semifinals. In the finals, Hull had his best performance overall, recording an additional two hits (one being a homer) while driving in three more runs.
Recapping a historic 2026 regular season for Scott Forbes and the Diamond Heels
Kellis didn't start in the quarterfinals but was inserted into the lineup for the semifinals given his success at the plate against left-handed pitching. Scott Forbes' decision to insert him into the lineup paid off big-time, as he slugged two home runs in UNC's rout over Pittsburgh. Given his success on Saturday, Forbes stuck with him in the title game, a move that once again paid off for North Carolina. Kellis was responsible for driving in two of UNC's six runs scored in the eventual loss to Georgia Tech.
All three players very much deserved this accolade for their success on the field this weekend. There's no doubt that each of these Tar Heels played a significant role in North Carolina making a run to the title game for a second consecutive season.
