UNC's ACC/SEC Challenge showdown with LSU is getting the national spotlight it deserves

The Tar Heels’ ACC/SEC Challenge showdown with LSU already had all the ingredients of must-see television, and now the national spotlight is following suit. With two high-profile programs set to collide in Chapel Hill, the matchup is receiving the type of attention and hype that a game of this magnitude deserves.

UNC vs. LSU is shaping up to be must-see TV

The times and television information for the 2026 ACC/SEC Challenge have been revealed, as North Carolina's clash with Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers is set to take over the national spotlight.

The game between two elite programs in women's college basketball will take place on December 2, with tip-off at Carmichael Arena at 7:15 PM EST. It will be televised on ESPN2, putting the game directly on the national radar.

When you talk about early resume-boosting opportunities, games like this certainly fit the bill. Both programs have had a ton of success in recent memory, being led by two of the best coaches the sport has to offer.

LSU, an SEC member, has won 26+ games in each of the last five seasons, including a national championship season in 2022-2023. The Tigers have appeared in their regional finals in two of the last three seasons, showing just how elite they've been at making deep NCAA Tournament runs.

North Carolina, on the other hand, has had a ton of success but hasn't quite been able to get over the hump. The Tar Heels have made two appearances to the Sweet 16 in the past two seasons, but haven't been able to advance further, something Banghart and company hope to accomplish this season.

The Tar Heels would love for this to be the year that they make that happen.

Of course, games in November and December are not always looked upon as important games on a team's overall schedule. However, big-time matchups like this one are exceptions to the rule, as this game carries plenty of implications. Not only will it help both teams get a good measure of where they currently stand, but it's a game that provides valuable experience for down the road come postseason action.
