UNC rewards Scott Forbes and his staff with well-deserved contract extensions

The University of North Carolina continues to prove its increased commitment to the school's baseball program, making sure that the men leading the charge are here to stay for the long haul.

On Monday, North Carolina announced contract extensions for the entire baseball coaching staff, headlined by head coach Scott Forbes.

Scott Forbes and his staff earn contract extensions from UNC

After a season that fell just one win short of a national title, the University of North Carolina wants to ensure that the staff that led the deep journey to Omaha remains in Chapel Hill for years to come.

Forbes, the head coach of the Diamond Heels since 2021, had his current deal extended until 2032. His staff also earned extensions of their own, showing how important it is to keep this group of leaders together for the long haul.

The Forbes tenure at North Carolina has been highly successful. Under his direction, the Diamond Heels have won 254 games, an average of 42 victories per season. North Carolina has won three ACC championships in that span and also have made two trips to Omaha, most notably the one they made this past season when they reached the Men's College World Series Finals.

While some other programs (notably South Carolina) made pushes to lure Forbes away from Chapel Hill, his heart and soul remain invested in what's brewing at North Carolina. He has led the program to an incredible amount of success but isn't satisfied with that, looking to help the program win its first national title at some point in the near future.

In an official statement, Director of Athletics Steve Newmark discussed why these extensions, especially Forbes', were so important to get done:

"Scott Forbes has been an integral part of Carolina baseball's sustained excellence during his more than two decades with our program, first as an assistant coach and now as head coach. It was a priority for our department to extend Scott's contract and recognize the tremendous job he and his staff have done leading this program. They have established Carolina as one of the premier programs in the country, and just as importantly, have developed outstanding student-athletes who are successful in the classroom and in the community. Scott's loyalty to Carolina, his staff and his student-athletes is unmatched, and we are fortunate to have him leading our baseball program."

Forbes' new contract runs from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2032. The first three years of the deal will pay him a total salary of $1.2 million annually before that figure increases to $1.4 million in 2029-30, $1.7 million in 2030-31, and $2 million in 2031-32. He will also be eligible for up to $500,000 in performance bonuses each season.

This move by the University makes a ton of sense, as it is important to invest in a program that has simply thrived under Scott Forbes' leadership. North Carolina continues to prove it is fully invested in helping the baseball program maintain its elite status, as it goes to show that they fully believe that Forbes and his staff are the perfect fit to lead that charge moving forward.

Based on their success in recent years, it's very hard to argue against it!
