It's go time. After a thrilling showing in the Super Regionals, Scott Forbes and North Carolina are one step closer to winning it all. Soon enough, the College World Series will get started, as the Tar Heels are set to take on Ole Miss to get things going on June 12. As you might have been able to guess, UNC is favored to move on.
UNC fans can officially start worrying about Scott Forbes leaving UNC
However, that's not all. Per the FanDuel sportsbook, North Carolina is the odds-on favorite to win the CWS this season, placed at +290. That's No. 1 on the list, with Georgia right behind the Tar Heels at +300. Texas at +320 is also something to keep a close eye on. With that, does UNC's odds give fans extra hope that they can do the unthinkable this month?

North Carolina is the favorite to win the 2026 College World Series
The confidence for this group is quite high right now, especially after what happened last weekend. Owen Hull and Jason DeCaro were the heroes for the Heels, as an unforgettable come-from-behind series win was posted over the USC Trojans.
After losing Game 1 of that series, plenty of us were worried sick that the season was going to come to an end. However, in Game 2, DeCaro's performance at The Bosh was truly unreal, throwing a gem. Then in Game 3, Hull's walk-off magic had everyone pretty dang fired up. The hope is that this group can keep the momentum going and start things off the right way in the CWS against the Rebels.
Scott Forbes leaving UNC for South Carolina was never going to happen
Speaking of Carolina baseball, remember when some people made it seem like there was a chance that Forbes was going to say goodbye to Chapel Hill to make the move to Columbia? It was never going to happen, and that was confirmed this week.
That's because South Carolina has officially made the move to hire Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall to take over the program for the Gamecocks. Look, it's a fantastic hire for South Carolina, and the expectation is that multiple Coastal Carolina players will make the move with him as well.
However, reports of Forbes as the Gamecocks' No. 1 target never really meant anything. Time and time again, Forbes has made it quite clear that he loves being the UNC leader and plans to be with the program for the long haul. UNC reaching the CWS likely only made that bond between the two sides even stronger.
On the outside, the links to South Carolina may have seemed like a possible distraction for this team, but the opposite has turned out to be the case. UNC is all-in on pushing through for a title, and the fanbase could not be more elated that Forbes is the one driving that charge right now.
