Danny Graves is very high expectations for the UNC baseball program over the next few weeks.
The ACC Network analyst strongly believes that the UNC baseball program is going to win the national championship this season, with his focus on just how good the team's pitching staff has been.
Here's what Graves had to say regarding the Tar Heels:
"This pitching staff. You throw Ryan Lynch now in that number three spot. Aiden Haugh, I think goes to like the long reliever type. This is filthy. Walker McDuffie at the back end of the bullpen too. The guy, my doppelganger. This guy can pitch forever and, and he's got the mentality to do it. I'd love this matchup.
To me right now, it doesn't matter who North Carolina plays. I've said it on the record that North Carolina is gonna win the national championship. I don't think they could be stopped. And you know what else? Skip Johnson, the head coach for Oklahoma, in fact, said the same thing. This is a team that could win it all."
Of course, the freshman duo of Ryan Lynch and Walker McDuffie have earned much-deserved recognition for how they've pitched during their true freshman seasons. It was on full display when they both took the mound in a winner-take-all game against Oklahoma in the Chapel Hill Regional, a game in which they combined to throw a complete game in the victory to advance to the Super Regionals.
Without a doubt, the UNC baseball program's sole focus is on what's currently ahead of them. You'd be naive to say that the thought of being two wins away from Omaha isn't on the back of their minds, but the goal is to take care of business at the Bosh, making that final step to accomplish the goal this team has been working for months for.
It's safe to say that UNC baseball fans hope that Danny Graves is right: we'd all LOVE to see his prediction become a reality!
